AFTER A FEW OF THE USUAL SUNDAY EVENING HYMNS, THE CHURCH'S PASTOR SLOWLY STTOD UP, WALKED OVER TO THE PULPIT AND BEFORE HE GAVE HIS SERMON FOR THE EVENING, BRIEFLY INTRODUCED A GUEST MINISTER WHO WAS IN THE SERVICE THAT EVENING.
IN THE INTRODUCTION, THE PASTOR TOLD THE CONGREGATION THAT THE GUEST MINISTER WAS ONE OF HIS DEAREST CHILDHOOD FRIENDS AND HAT HE WANTED HIM TO HAVE A FEW MOMENTS TO GREET THE CHURCH AND SHARE WHATEVER HE FELT WOULD BE APPROPRIATE FOR THE SERVICE. WITH THAT, AN ELDERLY MAN STEPPED UP TO THE PULPIT AND BEGAN TO SPEAK.
"A FATHER, HIS SON, AND A FRIEND OF HIS SON WERE SAILING OFF THE PACIFIC COAST." HE BEGAN. "WHEN A FAST APPROACHING STORM BLOCKED ANY ATTEMPT TO GET BACK TO THE SHORE, THE WAVES WERE SO HIGH, THAT EVEN THOUGH THE FATHER WAS AN EXPERIENCED SAILOR, HE COULD NOT KEEP THE BOAT UPRIGHT AND THE THREE WERE SWEPT INTO THE OCEAN AS THE BOAT CAPSIZED"
THE OLD MAN HESITATED FOR A MOMENT, MAKING EYE CONTACTWITH THE TWO TEENAGERS WHO WERE, FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE SERVICE BEGAN, LOOKING SOMEWHAT INTERESTED IN HIS STORY. THE AGED MINISTER CONTINUED WITH HIS STORY. "GRABBING A RESCUE LINE, THE FATHER HAD TO MAKE THE MOST EXCRUCIATING DECISION OF HIS LIFE-- TO WHICH BOY WOULD HE THROW THE OTHER END OF THE LIFE LINE. HE ONLY HAD SECONDS TO MAKE THE DECISION.
THE FATHER KNEW THAT HIS SON WAS A CHRISTIAN AND HE ALSO KNEW THAT HIS SON'S FRIEND WAS NOT. THE AGONY OF HIS DECISION COULD NOT BE MATCHED BY THE TORRENT OF WAVES.
"Greater love hath no man than this, thata man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13
AS THE FATHER YELLED OUT 'I LOVE YOU, SON'. HE THREW OUT THE LIFE LINE TO HIS SON'S FRIEND. BY THE TIME THE FATHER HAD PULLED THE FRIEND BACK TO THE CAPSIZED BOAT, HIS SON HAD DISAPPEARED BENEATH THE RAGING SWELLS INTO THE BLACK OF NIGHT. HIS BODY WAS NEVER RECOVERED. BYT HIS TIME, THE TWO TEENAGERS WERE SITTING UP STRAIGHT IN THE PEW, ANXIOUSLY WAITING FOR THE NEXT WORDS TO COME OUT OF THE OLD MINISTER'S MOUTH.
"THE FATHER," HE CONTINUED, "KNEW HIS SON WOULD STEP INTO ETERNITY WITH JESUS AND HE COULD NOT BEAR THE THOUGHT OF HIS SON'S FRIEND STEPPING INTO AN ETERNITY WITHOUT JESUS. THEREFORE, HE SACRIFICED HIS SON TO SAVE THE SON'S FRIEND.
HOW GREATH IS THE LOVE OF GOD THAT HE SHOULD DO THE SAME FOR US. OUR HEAVENLY FATHER SACRIFICED HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON SO THAT WE COULD BE SAVED. I URGE YOU TO ACCEPT HIS OFFER TO RESCUE YOU AND TAKE HOLD OF THE LIFE LINE GHE IS THROWING OUT TO YOU IN THIS SERVICE."
WITH THAT, THE OLD MAN TURNED AND SAT BACK DOWN IN HIS CHAIR AS SILENCE FILLED THE ROOM. THE PASTOR AGAIN WALKED SLOWLY TO THE PULPIT AND DELIVERED A BRIEF SERMON WITH AN INVITATION AT THE END. HOWEVER, NO ONE RESPONDED TO THE APPEAL. WITHIN MINUTES, THE TWO TEENAGERS WERE AT THE OLD MAN'S SIDE. "THAT WAS A NICE STORY," POLITELY STATED ONE OF THEM, "BUT I DUN THINK IT WAS VERY REALISTIC FOR A FATHER TO GIVE UP HIS SON'S LIFE IN HOPES THAT THE OTHER BOY WOULD BECOME A CHRISTIAN."
"WELL, YOU'VE GOT A POINT THERE," THE OLD MAN REPLIED GLANCING DOWN AT HIS WORN BIBLE. A BIG SMILE BROADENED HIS NARROW FACE. HE ONCE AGAIN LOOKED UP AT THE BOYS AND SAID, "IT SURE ISNT VERY REALISTIC, IS IT? BUT I'M STANDING HERE TODAY TO TELL YOU THAT THIS STORY GIVES ME A GLIMSPE OF WHAT IT MUST HAVE BEEN LIKE FOR GOD TO GIVE UP HIS SON FOR ME. YOU SEE....I WAS THAT FATHER AND YOUR PASTOR IS MY SON'S FRIEND."
hmmm..this is one story that i remember vividly in one of the bulletins given out by the church some two yrs ago..do take time to read it,and hopefully u'll be blessed by it..i took a long time to type it out...once again, we're reminded of the infinite enormity of our Lord's grace and love..this story has sure painted a picture of our God's greatness.. even though we fall short in His eyes, He still cares for us and gave His only Son for us..Praise God!
oh..tmr is a holiday again..which means i have only been to school for one day this whole week..haha..seems lyk im in the holiday mood alrdy..but sad to say, it also means i only have half a yr left in ri..
yea..thnk God xlp agreed to let me extend my stay in thailand..i'll be meeting my mum in bangkok for the weekend after the comp ends..spend some time wif her since she's going to bangkok for her work anyway..thn i'll come back wif my aunt on the 12th who is also going there to visit her..haha..
hmmm..havent been to yf for quite some time..which reminds me..haha..ytd i saw charmaine online..she juz came from LA to chicago if im not wrong..haha..thn after tht she is going to california and a few other states..lolx..and when i asked her where she was putting up, she said at her secondary sch friend's apartments..haha..friendship maintained for so long might come in useful..lolx..and may the Lord continue to guide and protect her..

lolx..i havent been to sch since last thursday..fri n mon was common tests but i din take any of those subs offered..letme see..mon had intercon..thn that was abt it..haha..ytd went to safra for a while..sun jian is very pro la..lolx..kena thrashed by him..but wad to say, he's xu xin's standard..thn after he won zhang tai yong he still asked weizhong whether we had any other better players..thn sun jian told us he also noes tang fei..haha..said he always win tang fei..lolx..
aft tht went for supper..thn sun jian kept on asking me to go buy food for him..lolx..wonder who is fatter..he or ---? haha..

selections are finally over..or at least for the time being..thnk God tht i've gotten into the team event..though i din make it to another comp, but i couldnt haf asked for more..many a time, we gotta see the purpose in things tht happen and we just haf to accept it..and one day, God will make it useful in our lives..well, if u're not gonna be satisfied wif wad the Lord has given u thn when will u be?? hmmm..actually it's not so much of tht comp tht affected me but one particular loss really affected me..i've seldom lost lyk tht before..but nvm, shant eleborate on it further..once again, thnk God for seeing me thru these three weeks..without God, nothing can be done..

well, i juz listened to a sermon..and i think the Lord has really been marvellous..even though i've kept Him in a box and chucked away this box for most of the week, He still was gracious to me..He granted me another chance to go asean..and to those in church who prayed for me, a big thank you to you guys =)..
looking back, i think this is one of the few times tht i actually experiened God with me in times of difficulty..haha..haf i been a backslider? well, we can be thankful for our God who always accepts us even though we fall short in His eyes, and always gives us chances..hopefully i'll make full use of this chance and bring glory to His name..it is great to know tht God loves us and it gives us assurance in everything that we do =D
